Tuesday 3/4

Tonight was President Trump's first official Presidential address to Congress

It lasted an hour and 40 minutes... earning the longest "presidential address to Congress" on record award, but despite the length, it was a good speech. Unfortunately, things got off to a rocky start as democrats began rudely interrupting the President. Speaker Johnson had to call the meeting to order warning the democrats against disrupting Trump's speech. Eventually he had to direct the sergeant at arms to remove Al Green (D-Texas) from the chamber. During the speech, several democrats walked out. There is so much hatred twoards Trump by the left... it is pretty sad. 

Saturday 3/8

On February 25th the Lansford's bought a new house . . . .

Today they moved in !! They now live in Hope Mills, North Carolina (near Fayetteville). They are busy emptyting boxes, setting up furniture, and working at making this house their forever home.

Monday 3/10

Today, we attended our Niece, Mishelle's, Funeral. She is the daughter of Steve's sister, Cheryl, and Ron Fuller.

After a 13 year battle with GIST cancer, Mishelle finished her mortal ministry on Monday, March 3rd. The service today was a wonderful celebration of her life. There were beautiful flowers, music, and memories shared by family and friends. She lived to see all of her five children married and to welcome six grandchilden into her family.

Tuesday 3/11

This morning, Linda took her "Hair Cuts for $8.99" coupon from the new Great Clips here in Star and . . . .

cut 15 inches off her long hair. She will donate it to Wigs for Kids.

Thursday 3/13

Today is Debbi's Anniversary date with SkyWest Airlines. This message, from SkyWest, was waiting for her when she got up this morning

Congratulations Debbi !!!

This morning we loaded our car and headed for Bountiful Utah. We were a bit surprised when, after lunch in Burley, we began to encounter some snow... but the roads were still mostly clear. 

Soon, as we climbed to around 5,800 ft, things got much worse. We slowed to 35mph while driving through the thick, heavy, slush. The storm stretched from Southern Idaho, to Snowville and all the way to Tremonton.  We stopped in Tremonton to clean the packed-on ice off the front of our car so the sensors would work. We finished the rest of our trip without any problems arriving at Kevin's by 3:00.

Tonight, we attended Sydney's performance in her schools rendition of the Disney play "Newsies Jr."

It is the first time she has acted in a play of any kind and she was amazing and had so much personality.

She played the part of Les (in the blue dress) and will do five performances. Tonight was "opening night" and we were able to join Kevin's family to see it. 

Linda checked the program for any messages about taking pictures but there wasn't anything so, she was sitting on an aisle seat and snapping some pictures in the opening act when someone, kindly, came up to her and said she wasn't supposed to take video or still pictures... so that was the end of that.  During intermission they made an announcement about picture taking and apologized for not doing it before the show. They asked that, if you had taken some pictures/videos, to please not share them on Social Media... we don't think blogs are considered social media so here are the ones Linda got before being asked to stop. 

On Saturday, Debbi and several of Sydney's Utah cousins went to the final performance.

 We asked Sydney if she wanted to do more plays and she said yes and that she loved doing it. Congratulations Sydney, you are a STAR !

Friday 3/14

When we got up this morning we were surprised with . . . .

 5" of new snow !!

Kevin brushed the snow off both his car and ours. The bottom picture is the view we had from Kevin's front room - it was beautiful.

Our plan was to go home tomorrow, Saturday, however, due to another incoming snow storm, we decided to go back home today. Before heading home though, we did a couple of things.

We drove from Bountiful down to South Jordan where Steve's sister, Glenda, lives. Glenda's daughter, Julie, met us at the door where she and Glenda were waiting for us. We walked down to the dining room and had lunch together. We had a nice visit and enjoyed seeing each other and sharing stories.

After our visit with Glenda and Julie, we drove over to Taylorsville (about 15 minutes away) to visit Debbi.

We had another nice visit, this time with Debbi and her two kitties, Mavis (black) and Bandit (yellow).  We had some paperwork for her car, her new AAA card, and Steve brought some power tools (that he doesn't use anymore) for her. Although it was just a short visit, we are grateful for the time we spent with her. We left Debbi's at 3:15 and headed for home. 

We could see storms to the west and more storms to the East, but the road in front of us was clear. We ran into a few little "flurry" storms, but they didn't last long and there wasn't anything on the road. We actually had more weather around Burley than anywhere else, but all in all, we had a worry-free trip . . . mission accomplished!

In the large picture you can see four or five layers of different kinds of clouds. We made good time and arrived home at 8:30.

Saturday 3/15

Tonight we had a ward activity. They called it "Touchdown Throwdown". Everyone brought their favorite game-day snack to share.

We had a Paper Football Tournament

This was the footbll we used, flicking it back and forth as we tried to score. The football had to stop on the edge of the table to be counted as a touch down. After you scored, your partner made a goal post with his/her fingers and you flipped the football, hopefully between the goal posts ... it was hard ... we didn't make any extra points but we did make some touchdowns!

We had a pre-game practice then played two rounds before half time and two rounds after half time. We rotated after each round so we had a different partner each round. After four rounds the top two scorers played a championship game. 

We all enjoyed goodies from the "snack bar" during half time. It was a fun evening with yummy snacks and great company.

Monday 3/17

On Linda's birthday, one of the things she received was a pot of Hyacynths. They are blooming and they are beautiful and smell wonderful. The flowers Linda loves to smell the most are gardenias, carnations, lilacs and now . . . . Hyacynths!

Wednesday 3/19

Last Saturday, 3/15, while at our ward activity, we received word, via text, that Linda's Uncle Walter had passed away that morning. 

Walter Lynn Hoggan is Linda's mom's little brother. He was 95 years old. Today was his funeral in Florence, South Carolina, where he and his wife Barbara have lived since about June 2015. We were able to visit them in Columbia, just before they moved to Florence. After something like 15 years, he was so excited to see us. 

He showed us all around town, took us out to dinner at FATZ Cafe, and attended the Columbia, SC temple with us. We only stayed overnight, but it was a wonderful visit.

Saturday  3/22

We don't see very many rainbows here in our part of the world, however . . . .

. . .  we looked out the window this morning and spied the beginnings of one. Linda hurried outside just in time to snap a picture. Within just a minute or so it was gone. 

Monday 3/24

Proof that Spring has Sprung here in Star

We will have beautiful Spring weather this week. It is probably just a "tease" because by the end of the week lower temperatures and rain are in the forecast.

Tuesday 3/25

This morning we had our Annual Wellness visits with our PCP

We discussed all of our "old guys" problems, adjusted some of our medications,  had our ears cleaned, and did some lab work. Overall, we are in good shape ! We also received our RSV vaccines at our pharmacy.

Wednesday 3/26

Yesterday, we bought 4 Pony Packs (24 plants) of Pansies

Today, we planted them ! !  They should add some beautiful color, all summer long, to our back yard.

Last Wednesday, the 19th, Linda received a Diamond Art picture she had ordered from Amazon. She began working on it that very day.

She has been searching for "something" to do and saw this. She decided to give it a try. 

 

Today, 1 week later, she finished it. She says it is very repetative and kind of boring so she's not sure if she'll be doing any more . . . we'll see!

One last post for today . . .

We went to Subway to pick up a sandwich for dinner and this is what we saw when we turned onto the highway . . . 

An amazing sunset that just got more beautiful with each passing minute. We love seeing these sunsets, here in Star, all year long.

Thursday 3/27

We suspect that last year's squirrel has returned . . . .

When we got up this morning and looked out the back window, we saw a mess. One of the chair cushions had been torn open and a bunch of the stuffing was gone and the flower arrangement I set on the patio table yesterday, was strewn all over the patio and grass. Although, we don't have any proof . . . yet . . . we think it just might be that same mischievious squirrel that came around last year. Then again . . . 

. . .  maybe it was the DUCKS !

March has been a "busier than usual" month for us but we have loved it! Can't wait to see what April has in store for us.
