It's now the year 2016
and we are busy preparing to leave
on an LDS Mission to
Nauvoo !
One thing we want to do is
Visit all our family before we leave.
soooo .....
On Sunday, January 3rd we
went to Matt's house to
visit and deliver a Christmas gift
Debbi sent for their family.
We had fun playing
Family Trivia
yes .... Matt is the crazy one taking the picture.
and since they live right here in Boise
we will be visiting them again
before we leave in March.
On Tuesday, January 5th we
left for California
to visit Linda's mother in Norco.
All our flights were great
and we arrived without a hitch !
It was cold and rainy just about the
entire time we were there.
On Thursday morning
Karen and her family left for Utah
to attend the Baptism of one of her granddaughters.
(Karen's daughter Kari's oldest daughter)
Thursday evening Debbi had an overnighter in
Ontario so we picked her up at her hotel
and we had dinner together and enjoyed a
few hours of being together.
On Friday the sun came out for a little while
so we got busy !
cleaning up the flower beds ....
cleaning up the patio ....
and replacing the Christmas flowers with
some Spring bouquets.
We took mom to Home Depot and
bought her this leaf blower
for her Birthday & Christmas.
We wanted to see if her hands were strong
enough to get the battery off and on
before we bought it ..... and they were !
It is lightweight at just 4 pounds and is
perfect to blow off her patio or
get the leaves out of her garage.
Mom always has little projects for us to do
when we visit and this time was
no exception.
At Christmas one of her grandsons mounted her
TV on the wall so she wanted some
"color" on the credenza.
We robbed the two table arrangements of a
few stems and ....
came up with a cute bouquet in this
crystal basket vase that is
one of her parents' wedding gifts.
On Sunday morning we got a big surprise ....
a plumbing problem !!
Mom's friend, Brother Christensen, brought over
his power snake and after a
process of elimination and talking with
Linda's brother Greg (who built the house)
we determined the clog was between
Karen's and Mom's house where they connected
the two systems.
Overnight the pipes drained and on Monday
Afternoon a plumber came out and
snaked out the system again ....
problem solved ... yay !
.
We vacuumed up as much water out of the
carpet as we could then set up some
fans, plugging them into the
outlet in the hall.
That night mom went down the hall ....
in the dark ....
and tripped over the cords.
She fell down on her hands and knees
but despite a few minor scrapes
she was fine ... nothing broken !
One of the bright spots in the whole
Plumbing Scenario was
We ended up rearranging moms
storage closet, making room for all her
towels that were previously on a wire rack
above her toilet.
Now the rack is in the garage and this pretty
mirror is in it's place.
It looks so nice and
mom is very happy with the change.
Karen's family returned home on Monday and
we left for home on Tuesday.
We said our goodbyes (that will have to last
for the next 20 months) with
strict instructions that mom had to
stick around until we finished our Mission
and could see her again ....
She is now 89 years old and says
she doesn't want to be 90 but,
she reluctantly agreed.
We had a wonderful time and will miss our
visits with her while we are on our
mission, but look forward to seeing her soon
after we return!
