Painting our House !!

We have decided to get our house painted !

We will paint it the same colors as we have now. We like them and using them will save us the frustration and pain of having to choose new colors.

Friday 9/19

Today we purchased all the paint and a few supplies for our House Painting project.

Our painter will get started caulking on Monday.

Monday 9/22

Today began the process of getting our House Painted !! 

In preparation for this much needed project, We had to clear everything away from the house. We moved all our patio furniture, BBQ, tools, fountain etc and took everything off the walls. Steve cut back our raspberry patch, took out our tomato plants (they were both just about done for the season anyway) and pruned back our Rose of Sharon (hibiscus) bush. Steve also had to clear things away from the two sides of the house and a few things by the front door.

 Rob, arrived at 9:00 O'clock this morning.

He got right to work setting up his "work space" in the garage and then began the time intensive task of Caulking !!

Tuesday 9/23

Today was just a continuation of yesterday. Caulking, caulking, and more caulking !! Rob made good progress and will most likely finish the caulking tomorrow.

Wednesday 9/24

Rob finished all the caulking today then began working on three of our downspouts. He removed them, gave them a prime coat, painted 3 sides, painted the house where they will go, reinstalled them, and painted the fourth side. It will look so nice to have them all match the house color.

Rob has also been working on these two patio posts.

 

Both the posts on our patio were rotting out at the bottom so Rob did some work on them. They look great now and will look even better when they are all painted.

Thursday 9/25

Today was a short, 4-hour work day

Rob had to rent a tall ladder to get the peaks. That was the project for the day. He brought his Godson, Dante, with him to help out.

Monday 9/29

6 hours today

Today Rob started painting RED !

The shiny red around the outside edges is new; the dull, in the middle, is the old . . . 

It is lookin' good !!

Wednesday 10/1

It was a good day today. Rob arrived at 9:00 this morning and got right to work. His goal for the day was to finish the front of the house over the garages.

He was able to meet that goal and do a little bit more. 

He turned the corner and started the wall leading up to our front door. We had to take the clematis trellis loose so he could paint behind it. Just before he left for the day, he put the other two light fixtures up for us. 

Thursday 10/2

Today marks work-day number 7 of our painting project. 

Rob finished the wall leading up to our front door, got the walls & trim done on the front porch and the upper part of the wall to the left of the front door. We love the way the paint looks. It's almost like a semi-gloss enamel finish. 

Monday 10/6

It was cold this morning so Rob got started a little later than usual.

Because of the cold, he moved to working on the East side of the house where the sun was shining and warming things up !

Tuesday 10/7

It was another very cold morning, with frost on the rooftops. But Rob kept checking the temperature of the siding until it warmed up enough to begin painting.

He made a lot of good progress today and was able to finish the front of the house and . . .

the east side of the house. He had to work around one large bush, a tool shed, prickly raspberry canes, and the fireplace tipout but he got the job done.

Wednesday 10/8

And yet, another cold morning (tomorrow is supposed to be better). Once it warmed up enough, Rob got going and worked for a good six hours. It turned out to be a nice day.

Whille waiting for things to warm up, he did some masking, caulking, and removed the outlet covers and the 4th downspout.

With the front & east side of the house basically done, today he started working on the back of the house and patio. The process is going slow, but steady and everything is moving along nicely and looking great !!

Today we ended up buying two more gallons of paint. One of the main color, and one of the trim color.

Thursday 10/9

Yay ! we had warmer weather for work day number 11

Rob got the back side of the house finished up today. He also masked and painted the patio door and replaced the power outlet covers.

Thursday 10-16

 Due to some cold, wet weather this past week, Rob hasn't been able to do any painting. Today, he was back at it - his 12th day of painting and on the home stretch !!

First he painted the ceiling on the front porch and on the back patio . . .

then moved on to the west, and final, side of the house. He worked for over 6 hours today but didn't quite finish.  Everything is looking so nice. 

Thursday 10/23

Today marks 1 month since we bought all the paint for this big project and is the 13th actually painting day. Rob finally got back to painting today and is very close to finishing up this job. 

Today, he finished up the west side of the house and started on the Garage Doors. He took the window divider decor off so he could get it painted and finished the single garage door. 

After doing some masking, he also got the front door painted, then . . .

started doing some touch-up work.

One garage door left to paint, reattaching all the garage door hardware, maybe a little bit more touch-up work and he will be done . . . one more day should do it !!

Friday 10/24

Today ended up being Rob's final day of painting !!

He finished up both garage doors then . . . .

. . . . did the last of the touch-up work, loaded up all his painting supplies, posed for a picture, and said "it's done!" 

Thank you Rob, you did a great job on our house - it looks beautiful !!

We were able to create a "memory" book for Rob !!

We loved seeing his surprised face when we handed it to him. He went through every page, commenting and laughing at the pictures as he went along.
