Friday 3/1

 March came IN like a lion . . . . we are hoping it will go OUT like a lamb leaving us with an early spring and wonderfully warm summer and fall !

The last few weeks we've had some warmer temperatures... warm enough to wake up the tulips and daffodils who think spring is on the way. Linda planted these last fall but can't remember exactly what she planted so it will be fun to see what comes up!

Update - on Monday morning our bulbs got a rude awakening

Saturday 3/2

We looked out the window this evening and everything was pink

Mother Nature had painted another beautiful sunset. It only lasted a few minutes, but it was nice while it lasted.

Tuesday 3/12

Today Steve ordered new glasses from Costco Optical - our first experience with them - The new glasses will arrive in about 10 days

 

1 week later (3-19) we picked them up, and . . .

Wednesday 3/13

Linda doesn't usually attend the Young Women's activities, however, 

tonight she was asked to help a few of the older girls (and the YW President) learn how to crochet.

This is Christy, she caught on quickly and Linda was able to teach her the chain stitch and the single & double crochet stitches.

Saturday 3/16

It has been such a beautiful day today . . . . we just had to be outside

Steve has been anxious to get busy doing some spring "clean-up" in our yard so he fastened up his back brace and vacuumed up some leaves. You can't see it, but the vacuum has wheels so he doesn't have to lift it.

Wednesday 3/20

Every spring this cute "duck couple" frequents our yard

Today we picked up Step 1 of our Zamzow's lawn care plan

Together, we filled the spreader with the fertilizer and . . . .

Steve applied it to both the front and back yards

Friday 3/22

We've had a wonderfully warm week and it has inspired our plants to wake-up!

On Thursday, 3/14, this is what spring looked like at our house

By today, 8 days later, they looked like this . . . .

It felt good to be able to enjoy going outside and seeing everything "pop up" 

Next week will be rainy and cooler . . .  this is SPRING!

Saturday 3/23

Today we attended a funeral for Jen's (Matt's wife) grandma - Neenaw. She lived to be 101 years old and the tribute of her long life by the family was wonderful.

Steve and I were invited to stay after for the meal, prepared by the Relief Society, and as usual, it was delicious. We enjoyed the nice meal as well as a nice long visit with Matt & Jen.

We didn't get a family picture, but we did manage to get this one - so cute!

Wednesday 3/27

It is supposed to rain the next couple of days and the lawn has started growing, sooo . . . .

Steve fired up the lawn mower (1st time this year) and gave it a little haircut !

Friday 3/29

Back in April of 2010 we purchased some bikes. We replaced the original seats with some nice comfy bigger ones.

We had fun riding around Star that summer before leaving for our mission in Colorado Springs. After our mission we didn't ride much.

A couple of years ago, Steve gave his bike to a missionary that was serving here in Star. He didn't have a bike and he and his companion had to walk everywhere. Linda's bike has been hanging up in the garage ever since.

Today, we donated Linda's bike to the Boise Mission. Elder & Sister Hansen came out to Star and picked it up. They were thrilled to receive such a beautiful bike. We also gave them the two original seats thinking they could use them as "upgrades" on older bikes. Elder Hansen said there would be a very excited sister riding the bike by this afternoon.

Saturday 3/30

We received a text from Kevin this evening containing this picture . . . .

Harking back to when he was serving a mission in Venezuela back around the turn of the century (1999-2001) he decided to make arepas and platinos for his family for dinner and served them Malta (nasty tasting, Venezuelan root beer) to drink. We remember when he returned from his mission he did a fireside for the youth and served them this same menu. He served the Malta in tiny little sacrament cups, which held more than enough for those that were brave enough to try it!

 Sunday 3/31

It is a beautiful day and as hoped, March is going out like a lamb (mostly) . . . . Come on Summer !

Today These three kids played one of Linda's arrangements in our Sacrament meeting Easter program.

Lucus on violin, Linda on piano, Liam on bass & Kenzie on Viola. (We are looking for a cello player, but haven't found one yet) Linda arranged a medley for them of Jesus Once of Humble Birth in 4/4 and He Is Risen. The two boys have only been playing for less than two school years so it is a challenge to arrange something that they can play and still sounds harder than it really is. Kenzie is more accomplished and carries them well. Kenzie and Lucas are brother and sister. Once again, they did an amazing job. They practice hard and love playing together.

This afternoon we had a delicious dinner Linda made in the slow cooker and some yummy Easter treats!

After a rough February, we are glad to report that March has been better. Steve is making a little progress every day on the road back to "normal", and is getting more and more anxious to start doing "things". He will see his surgeon the middle of April and hopefully everything is healing well by then.
