On Monday, July 4th
Amy Parker Calkins and family
arrived in Nauvoo.
On their way they made a stop in ....

Carthage .... and ....
for a picture of the mighty Mississippi !
Once in Nauvoo
we met up at the Visitor's Center,
Where Linda was working.
They got their show tickets, a map
and directions to our house
and ....
the FUN began !
We had a great time together ....
learning how bricks are made ....
and helping to make a rope

Whip the ends and cut it loose !
Elder Waite also taught them
about barrel making.

We toured several shops and
homes but also took
some time to "play" at Pioneer Pastimes.

Amy & Katy tried their hand at

The "grown-ups" ....
took a turn ....
on the stilts .... funny stuff !
It was fun to dress up like ....
a pioneer girl and ....
boy !
and pretend to ....
do some pioneer chores.
The big boys joined us for some fun
flinging a ring with two sticks ....
rolling hoops and walking on stilts.
While playing around, the Nauvoo Brass Band
stopped by,
got off their band wagon and
had a parade
right through the middle of the
little log play house.
they also went to the YPM's play
"The Promise"
totally amazing !!
Of course they stopped by the temple
grounds and took some time to
enjoy the beautiful Nauvoo temple.
On Monday night they watched us
perform in Sunset by the Mississippi
(sorry no pix tonight)
then hurried off to the Cultural Hall
to see Rendezvous .....
and after the show Katy got to try on
Abigail's bonnet.
On Tuesday night
they went to the opening of the .....
Nauvoo Pageant.
late at night, after pageant, we realized
we hadn't taken a picture together, so .....

Wednesday came and it was time for
the Calkins to leave Nauvoo
but first .....
a walk down Parley Street to find
the names of their ancestors
on the walls of the memorial pavilion
(behind this Brigham/Joseph statue)
They were soon gone and their visit here
is now just a memory but
we are so glad they came to visit ....
We loved having you with us !
