Fall Gardening

With the arrival of colder overnight temperatures

our Fall Gardening begins.

Our Strawberries have been in for four years now

and are beginning to show their age, sooo....

Steve pulled up all the plants and got the ground ready for

our new strawberry patch

These twelve new plants should make a nice patch

by next Spring.  They are already sending

out runners and will fill in quickly.

We went from a 6 X 6 patch to this 3 X 14 size.

We're hoping it will be easier to pick because

with the narrower size it will be easier to reach the middle!

Next we moved on to the tomatoes.

We picked all the tomatoes (both red and green).....

then pulled up the plants.

There are a few sisters in the Ward that

make Green Tomato Relish/Salsa every year...

They will be happy to get see this box!

We are still picking raspberries.  

A cereal bowl full every morning....yummm!

Matt's Girls like to pick (and eat) berries when they come over.

This year we planted red potatoes.

We didn't know how they would do...

but as it turned out they did really well!

We got 5 or 6 nice size potatoes off each plant.

After digging them up Steve rinsed the

the mud off of each one.

We were getting these potatoes ready to

give away.

Ours are in a box in the garage!

Autumn is definitely in the air.  The leaves are changing

color and there is frost on the rooftops in the mornings.

I guess it's time to say goodbye to Summer.
